Rahu mahadasha is about
ambition, the unfamiliar and sudden turns
Rahu · Guru
Guru antardasha in Rahu mahadasha runs 2 years 4 months 24 days. It is the second of the nine and begins 2 years 8 months 12 days after the mahadasha starts.
Rahu’s 18 years × Guru’s 16 years ÷ 120
2 years 4 months 24 days · 877 days
Rahu antardasha comes before it, and Shani antardasha after it.
Rahu and Guru are neither friends nor enemies to each other (neutral). That natural relationship is where reading a Rahu–Guru period starts; where Rahu and Guru sit in your kundli decides what it brings. Texts differ on the friendships of Rahu and Ketu; this is the table the kundli here uses.

| Family | When it goes well: your spouse, children and grandchildren bring happiness; when it is hard: your spouse and children suffer. |

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 55, verses 8–20
Parashara reads Guru’s antardasha in Rahu’s mahadasha by where Guru sits, counted from the lagna and from Rahu, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
For relief and good health, BPHS prescribes worshipping Lord Shiva through a golden image of him; by his grace the troubles ease.
BPHS 55.18–20A caution: When Guru rules the 2nd or 7th house, BPHS counts this sub-period maraka (a time the texts link with danger to life) and warns of the danger of untimely death. BPHS 55.18–20
What Guru is for each lagna, as Parashara lists it; Rahu follows the lord of its rashi
The labels, from Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 34:
| Lagna | Guru is (lord of) |
|---|---|
| Mesh (Aries) | Benefic 9th and 12th |
| Vrishabh (Taurus) | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 8th and 11th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.23–24) 8th and 11th |
| Mithun (Gemini) | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Chandra (34.25–26) 7th and 10th |
| Kark (Cancer) | Benefic 6th and 9th |
| Singh (Leo) | Benefic 5th and 8th |
| Kanya (Virgo) | Malefic— lord of the 7th, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Shukra (34.31–32) 4th and 7th |
| Tula (Libra) | Malefic · Maraka— lord of the 3rd and 6th, not the 2nd or 7th; the verse names it a killer all the same (34.33–34) 3rd and 6th |
| Vrishchik (Scorpio) | Benefic— lord of the 2nd, but the killer the verse names for this lagna is Shukra (34.35–36) 2nd and 5th |
| Dhanu (Sagittarius) | Neutral— the lagna lord, which the verse calls neutral (34.38) 1st and 4th |
| Makar (Capricorn) | Malefic 3rd and 12th |
| Kumbh (Aquarius) | Malefic · Maraka 2nd and 11th |
| Meen (Pisces) | Benefic · Yoga— gives yoga together with Mangal (34.44) 1st and 10th |
Rahu rules no house, so no lagna makes it good or bad by lordship: it gives the results of the house it sits in and of the lord of that rashi. Rahu in each house shows how.
One kundli that meets Rahu–Guru at 55, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Rahu sits in your 4th house: this period brings its matters forward — the home, the mother, land and vehicles, and rest. A node gives the results of the lord of its sign: here Shani, which rules your 4th house and 5th house and sits in your 3rd house. Mixed — a kendra or trikona, and nothing else: one point in favour does not open a period.
In this kundli it runs 25 January 2046 – 20 June 2048, from the age of 55 to 57. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Guru: rules your 3rd house and 6th house, sits in your 9th house. It brings effort, courage, younger siblings and short journeys; illness, debt, disputes, and thankless work. Go carefully — at a hard angle from Rahu, short of Shadbala, in an enemy's sign in the navamsa, in an enemy's sign and combust; on the other side: a kendra or trikona and vargottama.
Shadbala: the six-fold measure of a graha’s strength the report computes; “short of Shadbala” means below the strength the texts ask of it. Vargottama: in the same rashi in the birth chart and in the navamsa, which strengthens a graha. Navamsa: the ninth-division chart, read for a graha’s inner strength. Combust: so close to the Sun that its strength is lost in the Sun’s rays.
Rahu–Guru divides into nine pratyantars from Guru’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guru | 3 months 27 days | 25 January 2046 – 22 May 2046 | Care |
| Shani | 4 months 16 days | 22 May 2046 – 8 October 2046 | Opens |
| Budh | 4 months 1 day | 8 October 2046 – 9 February 2047 | Care |
| Ketu | 1 month 23 days | 9 February 2047 – 1 April 2047 | Mixed |
| Shukra | 4 months 24 days | 1 April 2047 – 25 August 2047 | Mixed |
| Surya | 1 month 13 days | 25 August 2047 – 8 October 2047 | Opens |
| Chandra | 2 months 12 days | 8 October 2047 – 20 December 2047 | Mixed |
| Mangal | 1 month 20 days | 20 December 2047 – 9 February 2048 | Mixed |
| Rahu | 4 months 11 days | 9 February 2048 – 20 June 2048 | Mixed |

Suggestions for Guru’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara gives Rahu–Guru a remedy of its own (BPHS 55.18–20), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”; it comes first.
ॐ ग्रां ग्रीं ग्रौं सः गुरवे नमः
Daan: chana dal and turmeric, on Thursday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Guru period: Guru mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Guru upay.
2 years 4 months 24 days (877 days): Rahu’s 18 years × Guru’s 16 years ÷ 120. It begins 2 years 8 months 12 days after a Rahu mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Rahu and Guru sit in your kundli. Rahu has no lagna of its own to be good or bad for; it gives the results of the lord of the rashi it sits in. Guru is favourable for Mesh (Aries), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo), Vrishchik (Scorpio), Meen (Pisces) lagna. Guru is hard for Vrishabh (Taurus), Mithun (Gemini), Kanya (Virgo), Tula (Libra), Makar (Capricorn), Kumbh (Aquarius) lagna. By nature the two are neither friends nor enemies. On the Tula lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Care”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Guru, Shani, Budh, Ketu, Shukra, Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Rahu. Each is Rahu–Guru’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 4 months 24 days, and the shortest Surya’s, about 1 month 13 days.
Parashara gives this antardasha a remedy of its own (BPHS 55.18–20), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”. The Guru beej mantra, Om Graam Greem Graum Sah Gurave Namah, and a daan of chana dal and turmeric on Thursday are the everyday upay for Rahu–Guru, where your kundli shows the need.
It follows from the Moon’s nakshatra at your birth. Enter your birth details and the whole 120-year timeline comes with it, each period read for your chart.
