Mangal mahadasha is about
effort, property and disputes
Mangal · Guru
Guru antardasha in Mangal mahadasha runs 11 months 6 days. It is the third of the nine and begins 1 year 5 months 15 days after the mahadasha starts.
Mangal’s 7 years × Guru’s 16 years ÷ 120
11 months 6 days · 341 days
Rahu antardasha comes before it, and Shani antardasha after it.
Mangal and Guru are friends to each other. That natural relationship is where reading a Mangal–Guru period starts; where Mangal and Guru sit in your kundli decides what it brings.

Mangal–Guru area by area, in plain words, from Parashara’s verses set out below
| Area | What the verses give |
|---|---|
| Work and standing | When it goes well: you gain a good name, honour and respect from government, and success in business; when it is hard: those in power grow angry and you lose servants. |
| Money and property | When it goes well: you gain wealth, grain, property, a house, land and livestock. |
| Family | When it goes well: there is happiness at home, with spouse and children; when it is hard: your brothers and sisters suffer loss. |
| Health | When it goes well: you enjoy well-being and good health; when it is hard: thieves, snakes, bilious illness and troubling spirits threaten you. |
For faith and journeys, Parashara’s verses on Mangal–Guru give nothing of their own; there the two grahas’ places in your kundli decide.
Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, chapter 54, verses 15–22
Parashara reads Guru’s antardasha in Mangal’s mahadasha by where Guru sits, counted from the lagna and from Mangal, and by what it rules; your kundli shows which line is yours, and though the text speaks of a man, its results apply to anyone.
For relief, BPHS prescribes reciting the Shiva Sahasranama.
BPHS 54.20–22A caution: When Guru rules your 2nd house (a maraka house, one the texts link with danger to life), BPHS warns of fever or of danger of untimely death, and asks for care with health. BPHS 54.20–22
What Mangal and Guru are for each lagna, as Parashara lists them, and the two read together
For Meen (Pisces) lagna, Parashara names Mangal and Guru together as givers of yoga (34.44): the strongest this pair can be. Both are favourable for Mesh (Aries), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo) lagna. Both are hard for Vrishabh (Taurus), Mithun (Gemini), Kanya (Virgo), Tula (Libra), Makar (Capricorn), Kumbh (Aquarius) lagna, where the period asks for the most care. Where one of the two is neutral, the other decides the lean: towards good for Vrishchik (Scorpio), Dhanu (Sagittarius).

One kundli that meets Mangal–Guru at 47, read the way the report reads yours
From the Janam Kundli report
Mangal rules your 2nd house and 7th house and sits in your 7th house: this period brings those matters forward — the money at hand, the family, and speech; the spouse, partners, and those one deals with. Mixed — a kendra or trikona and strong in its sign; on the other side: short of Shadbala and in an enemy's sign in the navamsa.
In this kundli it runs 29 October 2037 – 5 October 2038, from the age of 47 to 48. Its length here can differ from the one above by a day, because each kundli’s dates round to the day.
Guru: rules your 3rd house and 6th house, sits in your 9th house. It brings effort, courage, younger siblings and short journeys; illness, debt, disputes, and thankless work. Mixed — a kendra or trikona, well placed from Mangal and vargottama; on the other side: short of Shadbala, in an enemy's sign in the navamsa, in an enemy's sign and combust.
Shadbala: the six-fold measure of a graha’s strength the report computes; “short of Shadbala” means below the strength the texts ask of it. Vargottama: in the same rashi in the birth chart and in the navamsa, which strengthens a graha. Navamsa: the ninth-division chart, read for a graha’s inner strength. Combust: so close to the Sun that its strength is lost in the Sun’s rays.
Mangal–Guru divides into nine pratyantars from Guru’s own on. Each length is counted between the dates beside it, and comes out the same in any kundli give or take a day; the dates and readings are this one’s.
| Pratyantar | Length | In this kundli | The report reads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guru | 1 month 14 days | 29 October 2037 – 13 December 2037 | Care |
| Shani | 1 month 23 days | 13 December 2037 – 5 February 2038 | Opens |
| Budh | 1 month 20 days | 5 February 2038 – 25 March 2038 | Care |
| Ketu | 20 days | 25 March 2038 – 14 April 2038 | Mixed |
| Shukra | 1 month 27 days | 14 April 2038 – 10 June 2038 | Mixed |
| Surya | 17 days | 10 June 2038 – 27 June 2038 | Opens |
| Chandra | 29 days | 27 June 2038 – 26 July 2038 | Mixed |
| Mangal | 19 days | 26 July 2038 – 14 August 2038 | Mixed |
| Rahu | 1 month 21 days | 14 August 2038 – 5 October 2038 | Mixed |

Suggestions for Guru’s months, which your kundli confirms
Parashara gives Mangal–Guru a remedy of its own (BPHS 54.20–22), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”; it comes first.
ॐ ग्रां ग्रीं ग्रौं सः गुरवे नमः
Daan: chana dal and turmeric, on Thursday
What helps and what to keep clear of in any Guru period: Guru mahadasha. Its vrat, ratna, stotra and puja: Guru upay.
11 months 6 days (341 days): Mangal’s 7 years × Guru’s 16 years ÷ 120. It begins 1 year 5 months 15 days after a Mangal mahadasha starts.
Not in advance: it turns on your lagna and on where Mangal and Guru sit in your kundli. By Parashara’s lists it is strongest for Mesh (Aries), Kark (Cancer), Singh (Leo), Meen (Pisces) lagna. It is hardest for Vrishabh (Taurus), Mithun (Gemini), Kanya (Virgo), Tula (Libra), Makar (Capricorn), Kumbh (Aquarius) lagna. By nature the two are friends. On the Tula lagna kundli above, the Janam Kundli report reads it as “Mixed”, as its chip above says.
Nine, in the order Guru, Shani, Budh, Ketu, Shukra, Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Rahu. Each is Mangal–Guru’s length × the pratyantar lord’s years ÷ 120, so the longest is Shukra’s, about 1 month 27 days, and the shortest Surya’s, about 17 days.
Parashara gives this antardasha a remedy of its own (BPHS 54.20–22), set out above under “Parashara’s remedy”. The Guru beej mantra, Om Graam Greem Graum Sah Gurave Namah, and a daan of chana dal and turmeric on Thursday are the everyday upay for Mangal–Guru, where your kundli shows the need.
It follows from the Moon’s nakshatra at your birth. Enter your birth details and the whole 120-year timeline comes with it, each period read for your chart.
